Monitor and equipment. Scales are installed in the stocks. Dr. Mike Murray from Atlanta, an authority on Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome giving Dr. Fleming some pointers.
How it works: The horse will be sedated and then put into the stocks. Weight will be recorded and a lip chain will be added for restraint. The scope will be introduced through the nose just like a stomach tube. The scope will be passed into the stomach and the various regions of the stomach will be identified and any ulceration will be noted.
If significant ulcers are found then they will be recorded and a photo printed out for the owner to keep. The scope is removed and the horse is lead out of the stocks. About 15 minutes is all it takes.
If ulcers are found that need treating then meds will be available at a reduced price as well as a rebate from the manufacture. Prevention information will also be available.
