| Monitor and equipment. Scales are installed in the stocks. | Dr. Mike Murray from Atlanta, an authority on Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome giving Dr. Fleming some pointers. |
How it works: The horse will be sedated and then put into the stocks. Weight will be recorded and a lip chain will be added for restraint. The scope will be introduced through the nose just like a stomach tube. The scope will be passed into the stomach and the various regions of the stomach will be identified and any ulceration will be noted. |
If significant ulcers are found then they will be recorded and a photo printed out for the owner to keep. The scope is removed and the horse is lead out of the stocks. About 15 minutes is all it takes. |
If ulcers are found that need treating then meds will be available at a reduced price as well as a rebate from the manufacture. Prevention information will also be available. |
